A new addition to those surgical tools is digital solutions. The first step in creating this platform is 3D medical imaging software for improved preoperative planning of surgical procedures. To acquire the latest technology in this area, Ethicon Digital Solutions has a global collaboration with Visible Patient and is the exclusive commercial partner.The assignment for this research consistsed of two parts. The first was to perform a competition analysis in 3D modelling and based on these results, conduct a market analysis. Also, a value proposition for the Visible Patient software of Ethicon Digital Solutions was made specifically for the Dutch market. The results of both studies and the value proposition are incorporated in advice on how Ethicon Digital Solutions can differentiate themselves in the 3D modelling / advanced imaging market, in line with Johnson & Johnson's strategy, from the competition. The second was the set-up of a pilot to implement Visible Patient in the Meander Medical Centre. In collaboration with a project manager, an implementation strategy was developed for the Dutch market and specific protocol was drafted for the pilot. The development of an automatic phase recognition tool for laparoscopic cholecystectomies with a convolutional and hybrid neural network-based deep learning algorithm. The tool classifies the video data from the scope in one of the seven surgical phases. The used convolutional neural networks (CNN) architectures where modifications of ResNet50 and Inception ResNet V2. The hybridisation was made between the CNN and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM).

Analysis of the application of respiratory compensation in cardiac hydrogen magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) at 3T. 1H-MRS can predict clinical heart failure but is technically challenging due to the high susceptibility to artefacts caused by cardiac and respiratory motion. The cardiac motion is reduced with ECG triggering. This study investigated the effect of navigator gating to reduce respiratory motion.
