In the Advanced Development Lab I tested novel electric machines as well as production machines and used this experience in the IEEE P1812 working group. I also performed testing for agency certifications (UL, CSA, SIRA) for motors in hazardous locations and high-efficiency motors. In this role I quoted and designed electric machines for various applications, which involved the use of proprietary FEA packages. I also oversaw many aspects related to the use of permanent magnets in manufacturing.

Modeling done for power electronics of HPROC coring tool. Also designed and assembled a dynamometer for testing a permanent magnet synchronous machine with an oven to test temperature effects.

I was invited to the Institute of Energy Technology (IET) in Aalborg, Denmark to study magnetic gears with Dr. Peter Rasmussen. I spent a few months studying gears that had been built at IET in preparation for my thesis work. The trip was partially funded by a grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation.
