Nicole Adams completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA, Hons) with a specialization in psychology at Laurentian University. For her undergraduate thesis, Nicole examined the role of perfectionism and self-discrepancy on body-image and presented her findings at the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Annual Convention. She continued her academic journey at York University where she pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in kinesiology and health sciences. During her masters, she dove into the health behaviours research stream where she explored oxytocin and genetic links with overeating behaviours and examined other relevant factors such as reward and punishment sensitivity.In her previous role as a Research Analyst at Waypoint, Nicole was part of a dedicated team spearheading the mindfulness research projects at the hospital. Currently, there are two active projects (both funded): one, is to better understand the impact that a modified 4-week mindfulness program has on building and strengthening resiliency and decreasing burnout in healthcare workers; the second, is focused on understanding how implementing a mindfulness program can increase social-emotional competence in youth, especially during the pandemic. There are other projects currently in the works as the team strives to enact awareness and change in policies with the goal to shape the world by demonstrating how mindfulness is a universal human capacity designed to build global safeguards.As a Research Coordinator, Nicole now supports the operations of the Waypoint Research Institute providing oversight and support on various research projects at the hospital.
