The artificial pancreas delivers insulin automatically according to real-time sensor glucose levels, combining glucose sensor, insulin pump and a control algorithm, to achieve as much as possible functionality of a healthy pancreas. We also apply the artificial pancreas in type 2 diabetes when patients are hospitalised for diabetes-related or other reasons on the general ward.Responsible for the coordination of clinical studies evaluating the efficacy, safety and utility of hybrid closed loop in people with type 1 diabetes. All of which are multi-centre, two are multi-national. I also coordinated a multi-centre, multi-national clinical study evaluating the use of fully closed loop in people with type 2 diabetes. My specific responsibilities included protocol and study documentation design, submission and liaison with Ethics Committees and Competent Authorities, communication with participating sites, remote monitoring, preparation of reports for the Trial Steering Committee and Data Safety and Monitoring Board.Project manager for the European Commission Horizon2020 funded project KidsAP, involving 11 partners and 7 participating sites. The project includes two clinical studies and five supporting work packages. The clinical studies, KidsAP01 and KidsAP02, and will evaluate the Closed Loop system in very young children (aged between 1 and 7 years) with type 1 diabetes.
