About Nicole Basso Furlan, Cae
As an association professional with 8+ years in the non-profit field I have been able to quickly learn or teach myself the new database systems, including various CRM, AMS, and marketing automation systems. Through learning each of these systems I have been able to gain an understanding of how to extract data and analyze it to meet the needs of each customer or organization as tasks and projects come up. In some cases, this means using my knowledge from other databases to identify new customers, trends and gaps within the system or reports by being detailed oriented. One of my favorite projects was taking the lead to implement a new CRM system for my organization. This really allowed me to understand the current AMS and the new CRM to ensure it was being designed and set up to meet the needs of all the departments within the organization. __________________________________________________________________________________________________Having grown up in the burbs of Chicago and now living in Chicago I’ve come to appreciate both the city and suburban life. Information Services Manager
Manager, Membership Development And Engagement
I develop and implement multiple recruitment and retention campaigns throughout the year. By working closely with the marketing team each campaign is individually designed to target specific market segments that are identified through analyzing customer data from within the database systems.I spent time reviewing and analyzing the history the member data to find the trends that might account for the consistent five-year decline in membership. Through this analysis I was able to find missing information/fields in some of the reports that are being used and was able to correct them to ensure accurate data is consistently being reported. Additionally, this analysis helped to create customized campaigns for market segments in addition to redesigning current program already in place, such as the welcome emails for students and new professionals. I lead the redesign of these two programs including facilitating meetings with current members that fall into these categories to make sure the new emails meet their changing needs. The redesign involved adjusting the frequency of when communications are received, updating all images and writing new text for all the emails. I developed the departmental strategic plan and budget at the same time starting with a zero-based budgeting for the fiscal year. By collaborating and facilitating meetings with multiple departments I was able to design a holistic approach for all planned marketing campaigns. By mapping out the campaigns in advance for the year it allows for changes in each campaign to grow and adapt as new information is determined once each campaign is analyzed upon completion. The overall budget for the fiscal year was reduced by 25% by developing the two plans at the same time all while increasing the number of campaigns that will run by defining specific segments per campaign and specific budgets.
Manager, Membership
As the Membership Manager I have a customer first approach. In 2018 I was able to design and implement a new dues renewal processes, by using PURL’s (Personalized URL’s) for members to receive their yearly invoices via email first. With this new format as the initial outreach to members we saw an increase of retention rates of 10.5% in the first year and 12.6% in the second year of implementation for members within the first 2 months compared to prior three years. Through the development of a new recruitment plan each year, which is created with the Marketing team we’ve seen an increase in new members over the past two years. To help provide a quicker and more efficient database transition for the future I’m independently and simultaneously cleaning up two different systems, Net Forum Pro (AMS/CRM) and Higher Logic/Magnet Mail (email marketing automation) to ensure we have reliable customer records. This clean up is also helping as a cost savings program by reducing the amount of printing being spent on marketing. I have undertaken the development of new SOP’s for the department tasks and the databases to make sure the systems are being used correctly and efficiently. This has allowed for various tasks to be distributed among other departments as our organization continues to grow and allocate staff resources to other new programs that grow and produce other forms of revenue. Additionally, the new training documents have become part of the on-boarding process for new staff members and for retraining of current colleagues that has helped to maintain the integrity of the data.Through re-evaluating our current database systems, I was able to find potential new customers within our current systems that we could reach out to. By bringing this information to our marketing team we were able to develop out specific marketing campaigns to designated targeted customers based upon information in their profiles.
Membership Coordinator
As the membership coordinator, I work directly with the members as well as potential new members. I assist new members in joining the Association, in addition to helping them understand all the benefits the AAE has to offer. Through continuous membership campaigns we continue to see high member retention rates in addition to increased membership numbers. My role has developed over the course of my time to include managing the yearly publication of the membership directory, which transitioned from a paper version to a digital format, cutting costs of over $35,000. I also manage the information desk onsite at meetings and act as the main point of contact with our registration company and for the attendees onsite. I have taken a lead managing role in our implementation from an AMS to the new CRM system. Through taking this lead role in the project I was able to understand the system from the back end and ensure it was set up to meet our organization’s needs. This AMS/CRM conversion allowed me to gain a better understanding of how all the departments in our organization utilize the data from the same system differently. I worked directly with organizational vendors to ensure our members integration was seamless with the new system by ensuring the various SSO (Single Sign on) features were in place for each program. I worked directly with the CRM/AMS company, AGCI and a consultant to perform data clean up, data mapping and various rounds of testing to make ensure all the standard and customized demographic fields, purchase history, relevant accounting history and meeting attendance history was transferred.
Store Maintenance Coordinator
I work directly with the store personal to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. The trouble shooting steps include working with the store employees to attempt to resolve as many issues as possible at store level, from basic problems to some of the more complicated systems. When problems cannot be resolved at store level, I reach out to our national vendors to seek assistance in sending a technician out to the stores. There are also times when a national vendor is unable to find a technician in the area & I reach out to the mall to get the contact information for the local vendors as well. By working with both national & local vendors I build lasting relationships that will allow better communication & quicker resolutions. Through these relationships with our national vendors I am able seek assistance in difficult issue & with price negotiation on various issues. When an issue is unable to be resolved on the initial trip by a technician I work with our vendors to diagnose what will be the best possible solution while being cost effective. I reach out to the stores daily to ensure the issues they called in are being resolved to the Claire’s standards & sometimes involve reaching out to the vendor to request the technician to return to the site to properly fix the issue when it does not meet our expectations. This can result in obtaining a bid/ quote from a vendor, which I then review pricing & material break down. There are many times when I have to reach back out to the vendors to question the work or pricing. By doing this I ensure that Claire’s is receiving fair pricing for the necessary work. I also perform daily administrative task to assist our department by continuing to update our procedures as well as filings & updating the data base with new stores & closures. We work in access to make all updates & notes for the stores to ensure that the proper history is being recorded.
Account Specialist I/ Office Manager
While working at Dreyer’s (Edy's) I held the responsibilities of an Account Specialist I/office manager, which would include anything from answering phones & ordering office supplies to organizing meetings & booking hotel & travel arrangements. I also assisted the accounting department processing invoices & perform re-bills & tag reversals. This was done in the PB2 program. I would also assist in the in the end of month close for the monthly expenses.
