I am a natural problem solver. Problem solving and overcoming challenges are what excites me in the work that I do. I am a very logical and quantitatively driven individual who sees progress best through data and numbers. I have found interest in a variety of fields where data analysis can better understand problems in our lives.Early in my career, I found solace behind the computer compiling and manipulating data. With the Frank lab at NCSU, I found work most rewarding when I was calculating plant damage through ImageJ or finding tree crown area using UrbanCrown. I was exceptional at making sure excel spreadsheets of native pollinator species were up-to-date and accurate. Ultimately, I was able to work on an independent project comparing methods of assessing plant damage for accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness and got my first taste of statistical analysis software (specifically SAS). I was able to take these skills and apply them to a human biology setting by working with SSCRS at Duke. I gained experience with a variety of LIMs systems and data management programs/techniques used in clinical/pre-clinical biobanking. I was able to teach myself Excel VBA, and Tableau to automate and compile data effectively. I was even able to work with other institutions to standardize biorepository terminology across our different LIMs systems for the Surgical Critical Care Initiative. As a Scientific Data Analyst with DHVI, I am able to collaborate with researchers, IT, and developers as a Product Owner using a SCRUM framework to optimize applications for scientific use. I have been able to learn about the mechanisms that make vaccine research challenging and have observe a variety of processes to understand how genetic and viral data is analyzed. I am privileged to be able to be constantly learning and collaborating with a whole host of talented faculty and staff.
