Karat created the world’s first Interviewing Cloud to make the technical interviewing process fair, equitable, and enjoyable. Brilliant Black Minds, a free program by Karat, exists to increase the number of Black software engineers in tech. As an ambassador for the program, I support a community of thousands of Black software engineers as they practice for technical interviews and unlock access to new career opportunities.

Project:IMHOTEP was created as a collaborative effort between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Morehouse College, and Morehouse School of Medicine in order to address minority health disparities. Project:IMHOTEP reaches this goal by exposing talented minority undergraduate and recent university graduates to careers in public health.Interns recieve a two-week crash course on principles of epidemiology, biostatistics, SAS, bioethics, scientific writing, and CDC decorum. For the eight weeks preceding, students participate in an internship at the CDC, local or state health departments, or Morehouse School of Medicine. During the internship, interns research specific topics which they present to CDC officialsFor the remaining portion of the internship, I served as an intern at the Cincinnati Health Department (see description below).

As an intern through the CDC and Project IMHOTEP program at Morehouse University, I developed a community health assessment for the three neighborhoods in Cincinnati with the highest age-adjusted mortality rates. I collected for the assessment using SPSS, Excel, GIS, Health Landscape and other mapping tools.For the majority of the summer, I completed research for and wrote a policy advisory report on homicide as a public health issue in Cincinnati. I completed a literature review on youth violence. Using information learned from the literature review, I evaluated and critiqued violence prevention initiatives in Cincinnati and gave suggestions on how to improve them. Used Microsoft Excel to analyze homicide trends and data.
