In Dr. Godwin's Lab I assisted in behavioral research studying island wild mice. The purpose of this research is to establish a more humane, through genetic transmission throughout the population, eradication method for invasive mice on islands, which are threatening many, many native species. My Duties Include: Responsible for preparing and assisting in a variety of behavioral tests, including tests to observe learning and memory, stress-related behavior and social/mating behavior.Responsible for caring for and working with mice including such activities as changing the cages, cleaning testing arenas, weaning pups, placing identifying ear tags or punches, and euthanasia.Collected tissue samples from mice in a variety of ways (Brains, Livers, Tails, Ear Punches, and Fecal Samples)Experienced in extracting DNA, PCR protocol, and Gel Electrophoresis.Gained experience in collecting, analyzing, and quantifying data.Received grant to conduct individual research looking at mating behaviorMore Information on Research on Lab's Website : https://godwin.wordpress.ncsu.edu
