Hi, I'm Nicole! I'm a mechanical engineer based in Calgary, Alberta designing and troubleshooting HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems. I'm also a technical writer with an affection for engineering related topics; including social media and website content, as well as articles for engineering publications.I am President-Elect for the Western Canada Chapter of the Building Commissioning Association, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Science Writers and Communicators of Canada. I speak at conferences, webinars or various events about technical and diversity issues related to engineering.In my spare time, I research and host a podcast about engineering failures called Failurology. I also host a podcast highlighting women in enginering called GLOE - Glorious Ladies of Engineering. I oversaw the installation of plumbing, HVAC and fire protection systems to ensure work was completed as per the project drawings and specifications, as well as meeting or exceeding applicable codes and standards. To mitigate issues that arose during the course of construction, I initiated project change orders including revised specifications, mechanical sketches, and updated equipment schedules.I also reviewed existing mechanical systems and provided technical due diligence reports to building owner groups which outlined the life span of system components, recommendations to bring the systems up to current codes, and provided budgetary information related to upcoming maintenance and equipment replacement.

On behalf of the building owner, I worked with project teams to ensure that buildings met the owner's project requirements. I reviewed the start-up of all mechanical equipment to ensure that intended operation was achieved. In addition, I worked with LEED consultants to provide commissioning documentation, such as submittal and design review reports, project organization charts, and ongoing commissioning reviews.
