In order to address the rising demand in residential and commercial properties,we have embarked on an exciting 80 unit developmental project in Harare for which have been fortunate to have the experience in being the Junior Project Manager. Understanding, communicating, and implementing the needs of the various stakeholders, sustaining a high quality of our product, keeping within the budget and delivering the project within the specified timeline within a dynamic operating environment has been a thrilling and fullfiling experience.

Currently fulfilling the role of Earthworks and Civils Engineer for the Zimplats Mine Ngezi Phase 3 Expansion Project, and the Concentrator N10 Substation Expansion Project responsible for; •Updating and the Program of Works to monitor construction progress, identifying potential delays and mitigating, and communicating delays to the client resulting in achieving 0% delay penalties for the projects.•Communicating with design engineers about materials that are not readily available in Zimbabwe, and whose delivery on site would have cost and time implication on the project. Reduced delivery lead time of flooring product by 3 weeks, eliminating associated import licensing costs, and reducing transportation costs and by 70%. This was achieved by alternative products available in Zimbabwe as opposed to purchasing the products in neighbouring South Africa.•Performing weekly costing analysis to ensure the projects remained profitable, as such the projects were delivered in within their tendering prices.•Compiling of Quality Assurance Documentation following the outlined Quality Control Plan in accordance to SANS1200.8 to achieve 4/5 stars in the Zimplats Star Grading Audit.

As an intern an a small company, I have been assigned and have accomplished administrative tasks, in addition to those directly related to my field. Of particular note is my strengthened and expanded knowledge of the financial aspects of successful running a business. Tasks included;● Participating as key personnel in drafting and review of technical and financial proposals● Compilation of BOQs● Drafting of drawings

A slight deviation from the work experiences I had previously been exposed to, this program further developed the desire to address corruption and mismanagement of governmental resources. The program required the assessment of assets provided by local municipalities in South Africa to allow the government and other governments in the future to improve the management of national budgets and allocation of the much needed available resources accordingly. Outputs from the program included daily progress uploads in addition to weekly reports.

As a volunteer intern, my goal was to understand the role that civil engineers play in society, and particularly in the non profit and non governmental sectors. My work involved partnership with missionary aids to assist in disaster relief programs. My roles included the revision of Auto Cad drawings and reports for presentation to the clients. The outputs required from the internship included daily progress reports as well as bi-weekly presentations on the project at hand.

This was a valuable experience that allowed me the opportunity to work towards targeting the affordable housing crisis in the major Zimbabwean cities and towns. The objective of the company was to provide low income earners the opportunity to purchase property at a rate they could afford. The firm comprised of both contracting and consulting, which allowed me, as part of an exceptional team, to work on various aspects of projects including road and stormwater design, sewerage, structures and finally calculations behind the payment plans. Given the size of the firm, I further cultivated the ability to work efficiently and reliably, resulting in my placement as the head intern in one of the two offices, in addition to sitting in and preparing professional presentations for meetings with clients. Deliverables included daily summaries of progress and the reporting and presenting of completed aspects of projects twice a week.

Having previously interned at TAM Consulting between the semester breaks early in my university career, the site engineering role introduced me to health and safety requirements and quality control assurance.Most importantly, the experience highlighted the importance of effective leadership and and the ability to work as a team with the various employees working on different aspects in the construction of the project.
