Responsible for the overall management of healthcare-related professional liability and associated general liability claims.Administer the professional and general liability insurance program, review correspondence, meet with, guide and direct defense counsel to ensure compliance with the hospital’s claims management program.Review insurance coverage, direct claims investigations; monitor and control activities of retained defense counsel.Determine liability and compensability, secure information and negotiate and settle claims with plaintiff counsel.Determine exposure and report extent of potential liability findings to General Counsel/Vice President of Claims and Litigation Management.Facilitate effective communication with hospital administration, professional and ancillary staff and outside legal counsel in order to assist with defense of cases, including preparation of cases for trials.

- Defend high exposure medical malpractice actions from inception through pre-trialconference- Conduct depositions of plaintiffs and prepare and defend witnesses for deposition andtrial- Consult with expert witnesses for testimony and evaluation of files- Draft procedural motions, motions for summary judgment, and responses to motions madeby opponents- Handle discovery and pre-trial conferences in court

- Led discovery team as part of Law Department evidence collection project- Researched and wrote memoranda on various aspects of environmental litigation, e.g., the admissibility of remotely-sensed data in toxic tort suits- Handled pre-trial litigation for 9/11-related personal injury claims of municipalemployees and private contractors- Interviewed public agency personnel for assessment of post-9/11 responses- Conducted and defended depositions for Manhattan Trial Unit, including false arrest,negligent supervision, and premise liability cases- Defended three personal injury cases at trial, including one to defense verdict
