Profile bio

About Nicole Andersen

Public health professional with graduate level public health training on the epidemiology track from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and several years of translational and public health research in the maternal and child health field. My research and work experience has included women's health (focused on HPV-associated disease), fetal and neonatal neurodevelopment, fetal death, and neonatal outcomes among prenatally opioid-exposed infants. My undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia provided training in the natural sciences and cognitive science, with opportunities for specialization in cognitive neuroscience. After working for several years in the Developing Brain Institute, I decided to pursue my masters of public health at Vanderbilt University on the epidemiology track. Through this program I was able to sharpen my quantitative skills in biostatistics and epidemiology, broaden my understanding of health systems and public health work, and gain experience in research project and protocol development. While at Vanderbilt, I worked in the Emerging Infections Program at VUMC and completed my practicum at the Tennessee Department of Health in the Family Health and Wellness Division. My academic and professional endeavors have provided experience with working at the intersection of research, practice, and policy and ignited my desire to lead projects that consider socioeconomic, biological, and environmental statuses to support families. I am passionate about supporting the health of families and am highly motivated to push the boundaries of meaningful research discovery, health communication, and implementation efforts to improve the outcomes of this population.
