In my position as a registered nurse, I perform duties that are integral to the success of the operating room surgical team. I routinely assist anesthesia with induction, emergence, and any other emerging needs. I leverage my strong communication and interpersonal skills within a high-stress environment. I assist competently during surgeries in either the scrub or circulating role. I communicate effectively and efficiently with multiple disciplines to facilitate a smooth surgical day. I also provide compassionate care for patients and families within the preoperative environment

When performing duties within the Ortho-Trauma unit, I worked as a part of a team of nurses who provided care for adults within a high acuity environment on a surgical floor. I successfully assessed patients in rapidly changing situations and anticipated all possible outcomes. I advocated for patient needs, collaborated with all members of the healthcare team, and provided patient care for activities of daily living

As a member of the board of directors, I help oversee the financial and governmental obligations of Westover Treatment Centre. The role also involves participating in strategic planning, community participation, Ontario Health Team planning, and the direct implementation of governmental compliance strategies. I also oversee program attendance and actively participate in strategic planning on the future of the facility. Finally, I provide insight to board members on how to engage with certain clientele and am assisting with the purchase and development of a new detox facility to better serve our population.

Primary Care Service - Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health With the support of a licensed Nurse Practitioner, I provided primary care services to the residents of the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health. Provided care to acutely and chronically ill residents by taking detailed medical histories, performing exams, performing minor procedures, interpreting lab results and making diagnoses. Created comprehensive care plans and assessed interventions. Provided compassionate and culturally orientated, client centered care to a disenfranchised population. I became proficient with PowerChart features and taught the nursing staff how to improve the functionality of their electronic record.

Hospitalist/Emergency/Prenatal Under the supervision of a licensed Nurse Practitioner, I provided prenatal care, completed history and physicals for the hospital admissions, and treated episodic conditions within the emergency department. I became proficient in using the Ontario Antenatal Record and building a trusting therapeutic relationship with pregnant mothers up until their due dates. Completed all histories and physicals on the psychiatric inpatient floor, amended medical orders and best possible medication histories. Attended patients in the emergency department with CTAS scores of 3-5, collaborated with the emergency room physicians and completed proper patient handoff when acuity required to do so.

As a clinical instructor, I was responsible for monitoring, assessing, and managing a group of undergraduate nursing students on a busy perioperative inpatient unit. I educated students in effective time-management, assessment skills, and how to react to the multitude of real-time circumstances. I also offered instruction on and assistance with charting, dressing changes, and medication administration. I supported student learning through constructive criticism and praise and collected and marked student assignments.
