The School of Life is a cultural enterprise that offers classes designed to broaden people’s cultural horizons, to help them think about their lives in new and unexpected ways, and to inspire ways of making everyday living more satisfying, interesting and purposeful. Classes draw on a wide range of academic disciplines (literature, psychoanalysis, visual arts and philosophy) and use a number of creative teaching methods. Topics relate to big themes in life like Love, Work, Self, Politics, Play and Family.

Taught graduate-level course examining the interrelationship between theoretical approaches to development and the formulation of social policy, planning and community participation in relation to a range of socio-economic and political contexts. This included lectures on social corporate responsibility and social entrepreneurship.

Project to improve water and sanitation service delivery in Colombia & Zambia. This project was run in partnership with BPD (Building Partnerships for Development in Water and Sanitation), a non-profit charity that improves the provision of water and sanitation services in unserved and poorly served communities by ensuring that partnerships are effective and appropriately ambitious.

Taught undergraduate course focused on the changing boundaries between the roles of the state, the market, the family and the voluntary sector in the mixed economy of welfare; examines the role of ideology, social need, institutional interests and economic conditions in explaining development and historical change in social welfare provision.
