Inpatient Orthopedics and Ambulatory Surgery

Inpatient Orthopedics -Manages post-operative orthopedic patients including joint replacements, trauma, fractures, compartment syndrome, fasciotomies and cervical/lumbar fusions.-Manages pain effectively, implementing position changes and cold therapy, activity and timely administrating analgesics.-Interprets vital signs, critical labs and reports changes in patient’s condition to the interdisciplinary team. -Monitors output of drains including Jackson-Prat, CVACs and Wound Vacuum assisted drains. -Assesses patients with epidurals and successfully removes epidurals according to orders.-Monitors patients closely for changes in condition.-Positions patients according to their surgery and understanding body mechanics-Preforms phlebotomy and IV insertion-Monitors and interprets telemetry.-Inserts Foley Catheters and monitors patient’s urine output. -Trained using EPIC EMR system. -Member of the Journal Club.

Pulmonary Step-Down• Provides direct quality care to patient’s including daily monitoring, recording and evaluating of medical conditions of up to six patients per shift.• Monitors oxygen dependent patients on ventilators, high flow settings, continuous pulse oximeter’s, BiPAP’s, CPAP’s and those with tracheostomies.• Monitors vital signs, critical labs and reports changes in patient condition to the interdisciplinary team.• Monitors those with chest tubes, Foley catheters and PEG tubes.• Preforms phlebotomy and IV insertion.• Preforms wound vacuum assisted dressing changes and wound care.• Maintains a safe work environment.• During COVID-19 Pandemic unit became first acute COVID floor at SBMC.• Successful completion of RN New Grad Residency Program.

• Assisted patients with activities of daily living, providing basic care to acutely ill patients and preforming technical skills.• Assisted nurses in taking blood pressure, measuring hear rate and recording vital signs in physical examinations.• Responsible for the maintenance of a safe and clean environment and the coordination of daily unit operations.• Experience in departments including MS-ICU, cardiac step-down, oncology, neurology, post-surgical, orthopedics, mother-baby and behavioral health.

• Provided direct hands on care to patients through assisting with bathing, dressing, mobility, eating and activities of daily life.• Assisted nurses and medical staff on care of patients.• Experience in departments including traumatic brain injury, stroke, cardiopulmonaryand spinal cord injury.

Volunteer though The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP).Duties included daily visits to geriatric patients, providing assistance when needed, providing range of motion exercises and providing companionship.
