In this role I oversee LSHV’s immigration program, which provides comprehensive, high quality immigration assistance to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes.

Represent victims of domestic violence in immigration and family law matters. Develop immigration practice focusing on remedies for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Prepare VAWA self-petitions, battered spouse waivers, u visa petitions, asylum and naturalization applications. Litigate Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) in family and immigration court, defend clients in removal proceedings. Litigate family court matters, including obtaining orders of protection, custody and child support orders, as well as seeking remedies under the Hague Convention and UCCJEA. Develop and execute training materials and supervise attorneys in immigration matters.

Under supervision of staff attorney, obtained asylum grants for an Albanian woman in a gender-persecution claim, a Cameroonian seeking political asylum detained in the Queens Detention Facility, and a Kurdish Syrian seeking political asylum. Prepared and presented case-in-chief before an immigration judge, drafted memoranda and supporting affidavits, gathered and authenticated evidence, interviewed clients, researched country conditions, and translated client’s submissions from French to English.

Drafted arbitration decisions in German, French and English for claims submitted by Holocaust survivors and their relatives to assets in Swiss bank accounts that were dormant since 1945. Researched issues relating to the history of the Holocaust, inheritance laws of various countries, drafted correspondence and supervised Claims Panel arbitration sessions.
