About Nicole Ferrara
I believe that all people deserve to live in communities that promote their health and wellness, regardless of race, wealth, age or ability. I've had the fortune to work at the intersection of public health and urban planning for over 15 years. Most recently, I've been responsible for building and overseeing the City of Oakland Department of Transportation's (OakDOT's) Major Projects Division. As the Major Projects Division Manager, I direct a team of planners and engineers working to design and deliver OakDOT's largest and most complex infrastructure projects that improve active transportation, transit, and goods movement both in Oakland and throughout the region.Prior to my current role, I served as the Assistant to the Director on Policy & Intergovernmental Affairs, developing and realizing OakDOT’s policy and intergovernmental affairs priorities at the local, regional, state and federal levels, including developing the City's Safe Oakland Streets initiative, including a multi-modal high injury network. As an Acting Senior Transportation Planner, I managed OakDOT’s Planning and Project Development team and spearheaded the City’s first rapid response project at Harrison and 23rd Streets, and managed the redesign of Telegraph Avenue. Prior to joining OakDOT, I served as the Executive Director of Walk San Francisco, a non-profit advocacy organization that I grew by 400% in four years. In coalition with key partners, we led the charge to win the City of San Francisco’s adoption of Vision Zero, built a Vision Zero Coalition of community based organizations, changed policies to prioritize people on foot, and won funding for improvements to the walking environment.
Listed skills include Policy Analysis, Grant Writing, Nonprofits, Public Health, and 42 others.
