I started out as a freelance writer and in December 2016 was named Features Editor at Global Corporate Venturing magazine, a monthly publication covering the world's biggest corporate venturing units.At GCV Magazine I interviewed influential leaders from across the global corporate venturing community, including Trina Van Pelt at Intel Capital and Kai Bond at Comcast Ventures, who talked about the importance of inclusion for our Spotlight on Diversity special; Akihiko Sako, president and CEO of Japan-based CAC Holdings, who spoke about capitalising on artificial intelligence (AI) in enterprise IT; and Felix Thalmann, CEO of Germany-based chemicals company BÜFA Group, who discussed the company’s efforts to advance digitisation throughout the business. I also wrote about innovations like emotion AI, and what it can teach us about human behaviour (link below).I served as a News Editor for Private Equity International's flagship site and wrote news and analysis for PEI from July until October 2016, producing the most-read story for the week ending October 3, 2016, "Who Might Be a White Knight for SVG?" My interview with Philippe Poletti, head of Ardian's mid-market buyout group, was cited in Fortune magazine's daily newsletter about private equity, Term Sheet, on Sept 28.I've also worked freelance as a content strategist, helping corporate clients to craft stories that influence how target audiences think and feel about particular brands and products.

I created a course called "Writing about Photojournalism"--which analyses how the media uses photographs to shape the way we think about global events--to help students understand the power of images in our increasingly visual age. In November 2015, I spoke at the International Visual Literacy Association conference in San Francisco.

As Editor at Large for Asymptote, a digital magazine featuring literary works by Nobel Prizewinners such as JM Coetzee and Herta Muller, I curated the best in contemporary Malaysian writing, and shared it with a global audience.My interview with Man Asia Prizewinner Tan Twan Eng was one of Asymptote's Top 10 Most Popular Posts in 2013, and in July 2015, Asymptote published my translation of a chapter from Malaysian National Laureate Datuk Shahnon Ahmad's 1991 autobiography, "My Childhood in an Impoverished Village" ("Detik-detik Diri di Daerah Daif.") I was selected as a 2015 Finalist for the American Literary Translators Association's Travel Fellowship on the strength of this translation.

During my scholarship year I initiated and moderated panels for a one-day seminar, "Make Lit Happen,"​ which examined the value of MFA programs for an audience of emerging and established writers considering whether to pursue a Master's degree in creative writing. The seminar was held in October 2012 and October 2013 at the Writer's Center in Bethesda, MD. I also taught a creative writing workshop at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, MD.

I was selected to attend writing residencies across North America to work on my creative projects. I was an Associate Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, a Wired Writing Fellow at The Banff Centre in Canada, and a Cafritz Scholar at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst, VA.

I was the sole recipient of a Thesis Fellowship in Fiction in my final year of a 3-year MFA program in creative writing at George Mason University, and was named Outstanding Graduate Student in creative writing. During the 2009-2010 academic year I designed and taught English 101 and 201 (Writing about Texts) courses for the English Department, and in 2008-2009, my first year at Mason, I served as a Tutor in the university's Writing Center.

I analyzed leveraged buyouts and wrote commentary on deals typically valued at $500 million or more for Breakingviews, a unit of Thomson Reuters.

As Dow Jones's Private Equity Reporter based in London, I wrote articles and features about the UK private equity sector and moderated panels at conferences such as Dow Jones’s 2006 European Limited Partners Summit in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2005 I won the British Venture Capital Association’s Journalist of the Year award in the Breaking News category. I started out at Dow Jones as a reporter on the UK Energy Markets desk, and became Private Equity Reporter in 2004.
