About Nicole R. Jackson, Md, Mph

Dr. Jackson’s clinical and research interests are centered in autopsy pathology with an emphasis on using the autopsy service as a platform to teach about health disparities and a place for learners to become better teachers. Her career interests include deaths in vulnerable populations, medical education, quality improvement, mentoring and community outreach, health disparities, DEI work, and promoting workforce development by increasing the visibility of pathologists. Dr. Jackson welcomes collaboration in efforts to foster community and create space for those historically excluded in medicine, healthcare, and higher education.

    Under the tutelage of the State Epidemiologist, assessed initiation of the Louisiana surgical prophylaxis surveillance initiative for colon surgeries and abdominal hysterectomies. Conducted a statistical review of the first three months of Louisiana’s Surgical Prophylaxis Program to establish a baseline for surgical site infection (SSI) rates for colon surgeries and abdominal hysterectomies. Performed a literature review of documents from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Healthcare Surveillance Network. Extracted data from publicly available databases through Medicare on SSI rates reported by all acute care facilities in Louisiana. Constructed Forest Plots in SAS using standardized incidence ratios of SSIs and confidence intervals to compare rates at different local facilities throughout the state for January through March of 2012.
