While home on breaks from university, summer and winter, I worked part-time as the front receptionist at this private chiropractic practice. I started back in the summer of 2017 and still periodically help as needed - as recently as January 2019. As this is a small private practice, my daily responsibilities included anything from: opening/closing the practice, checking the voicemail, returning/answering phone calls, calling other doctor offices on behalf of our patients, pulling charts, checking patients in, rescheduling current patients, scheduling new patients, taking payments/sending invoices, filing, data inputting, creating new charts/pulling old charts, scribing, assisting with children, maintaining a neat and orderly front desk/lobby to maintaining an overall soothing atmosphere that was both personal but HIPPA compliant.

As Shift Lead, my duties included: opening/closing the store, filling out the proper paperwork as needed to comply with food regulations, holding shift meetings, handling money (accessing the safe, stocking the cash register, making deposits), prepping food, maintaining the stores appearance/upholding customer satisfaction, handling any customer complaints, providing refunds/comps where needed, taking phone calls regarding caterings or GrubHub, prepping/checking/delivering/setting up caterings, maintaining the store's internal production, training new crew members, checking labor/statistics, stocking, counting inventory/placing truck orders, keeping my crew on task/holding them responsible for their work (stepping in to any role that may need help - line crew, cook, back, etc.) all while making sure that I also provided an environment in which my team could enjoy working and prosper.

As line crew, my responsibilities included: prepping food, greeting customers, maintaining customer satisfaction throughout their visit, maintaining a clean and appealing front line, providing assistance with food options for those with dietary limitations, preparing food for customers/GrubHub/caterings, using the cash register, maintaining the appearance of the lobby, and assisting with any requests from our customers.

While home on breaks from university, summer and winter, I worked part-time as a personal assisstant for the local realtor. I started back in the summer of 2017. My responsibilities as personal assistant include: running errands, filing documents, discarding past sensitive information properly, data inputting, organizing listings, organizing the office in general, cleaning houses for show and assisting with properties as needed.

"The Cognitive and Social Development (CSD) Lab at Penn State, directed by Dr. Liben, houses research and teaching activities related to the way that individuals develop over their lifetimes. At the core, our projects are aimed at understanding how developmental progress comes about. We study progress in the cognitive arena — such as how people think about and represent their environments with maps, or in the social arena — such as how individuals develop identities and beliefs about social-group categories such as gender and race."I assisted on Kingsley Schroeder's thesis project about children's understanding of gender.I was tasked with the intial stages of the project: collecting the raw data, converting audio files to word documents for coding, implimenting a coding scheme that I and my co-worker felt was well emcompassing but also easily replicated by others, repeatedly testing the coding scheme for accuracy, then coding each interview based off our finalized coding scheme, data entry, and analysis.

"Friendship Groups help elementary age children develop the basic social skills necessary for making and keeping friends. Small groups of 4-6 children of similar age meet together once a week to practice social skills while doing fun games, crafts and activities. Three or four adult coaches facilitate each group, using teaching methods developed by Dr. Karen Bierman. All coaches are Penn State students interested in careers in psychology and education."I had the unique privilage to work in the Child Study Center, within Penn State's Psychological Department, through their training institute. This program offered a select few undergraduates the rare oppurtunity to participate in an advanced course that involved working directly with children in a therapy based practicum. Most students would not be able to participate in such a program until graduate school. It was such an unique oppurtunity to get a feel for what my future may hold going into a career with children - specifically therapy/intervention based work. This oppurtunity also really solidified my passion to work with at risk children. In this specific program, we worked with children who had poor social skills due to either being on the spectrum or having other behavioral issues - i.e. oppositional defiant disorder. Each child presented with their own unique challenges and their own way of coping with their environment. The goal of the group was to show the children how to not only make, but maintain lasting relationships/friendships. It was a challenge to give each child the individual attentioin they needed, while also trying to get the children to interact as a functioning group - we really set out to help the children by getting them to help each other. As the practicum came to an end, it was a bitter sweet moment - it was so heartwarming to see where the children had began and just how far each of them came. This oppurtunity was the single most invaluable experience I had with my time at Penn State.

While working in ski rentals, my responsibilities included: navigating customers through the entire process of renting equipment and upholding their satisfaction for the lenght of their stay - this included making sure they filled out the correct liability paperwork, showed proper identification, met all of the saftey regulations in place, measured/fitted them with the correct equipment, showed them how to properly wear/use the equipment, filed paperwork, maintained a neat and orderly lobby, monitored to make sure that all saftey precautions were being taken, returned the equipment at the end of their visit, checked inventory, notified the office about outstanding rentals, and overall maintained a fun/exciting/safe envioronment for our guests.
