If there was only one thing that makes me stand out from a crowd, it is my ability to instill trust in others. This is both a natural talent and one honed over years living and working with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences. I know what it is like to be bullied, to lose something you love, and to fight fiercely to protect the things you care about. I also know what it is like to be listened to, cared about, and welcomed. The latter is a much more effective way of implementing mutually acceptable lasting change.I have lived in 13 different cities, in three different countries, and hosted exchange students from over five different cultures. I have worked in seven different scientific fields in the academic, government, and industry sectors. I am flexible, adaptable, and above all welcoming. Because of these experiences, I know firsthand both the value in communicating across disciplines, cultures (not just in the geographic sense), and outside of your comfort zone, as well as, possess the skills to do so. I am able and eager to understand different views, anticipate others' needs, and inspire people to work together. I strongly believe that people’s minds are not changed by telling. It is only through listening, caring, and openness that true communication can occur. Of course, to properly facilitate or mediate one must also be able to encourage and assert a goal to all parties involved. They must be able to act fast and be patient. They must be able to calm heated emotions and not be overwhelmed by their own. They must be able to distill concerns and commonalities raised by stakeholders and see creative solutions to complex problems. All of these skills are solidly in my possession.
