Interpreting passive and active acoustics from sonar frequencies to monitor marine mammals allowed for me to acquire analytical skills through the execution of large scaled research projects. I counted the number and duration of whale calls located in different oceans. This was used in current research to measure density and to measure the direction the whale is positioned from the hydrophone. My work directly contributed to the lab efforts to develop new density estimation algorithms from passive acoustic datasets necessary to better inform management and improve mitigation efforts of ocean users.-Proficient in softwares such as Excel, Triton, Echoview, and Matlab-Contributed to long-term research that aims to make better use of the ocean and to protect marine life

These concepts were then applied to technical writing using rhetoric. Spent 2 weeks in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and participated in hands- on sustainability learning using a local hotel and an organic farm as contrasting living arrangements. Practiced sustainable farming methods such as vermiculture composting, rain water collection, and stratified crop beds to prevent soil erosion.-Spent time living on an organic farm where resources were limited and learned practices that help conserve present resources-Conducted research on natural systems using The Natural Step Framework and presented findings to colleagues and faculty at Penn State
