We combine facilitation skills and strategy games to help our clients navigate complexity and uncertainty to take better informed decisions.

The Landscapes as Carbon Sinks project in Scotland is developing a systems framework for understanding pathways towards delivering Scotland’s net-zero carbon targets. I am looking at the governance of land-use systems and their potential for delivering transformative landscape change to respond to the net-zero targets.

During my PhD, I wanted to understand the strategies of tropical forest users under socio-economic transitions. What are the impacts of hunters’ decisions on biodiversity and livelihoods? What drives these decisions? What solutions can be put in place that ensure the food security of millions of people around the world and the ecological sustainability of their practices? To explore individual and collective behaviour, I used a variety of participatory tools to ensure the integration of stakeholders’ values, beliefs and aspirations—including role-playing games. Games are not only a tool to understand how people make decisions, but they also empower players by helping them conceive their own strategies.
