She has a diverse and dynamic background in the fashion industry, ranging from modeling to clothing design to pattern making to visual merchandising and marketing for major retailers to producing and directing runway shows.Reader launched her own import-export company at the age of 17; she has formed three start-ups over the duration of her career, gaining experience as a consultant and marketing specialist for a wide variety of companies and services, including commercial development. After several years of working in the fashion industry, Nicole observed inefficient operating processes, and a crucial need in the industry that wasn’t being met. She always knew that fashion and technology would inevitably be intertwined; she began Modern Mirror in 2008, recognizing the hybridization of these industries long before others caught on.Over the past 12 years, Reader’s practice and gained knowledge has made her an expert in e-commerce, retail-and-technology experiences, virtual fittings, cyber security in the fashion space, brand investment strategies, and applied science deployment for ready-to-wear companies. She advises labels on the technologies they should integrate into their operations, and with the launch of Modern Mirror’s new product suite—which reflects over a decade’s worth of research and development—she will be bringing this extensive knowhow to the global market. Nicole’s business endeavours have also included being a financial service advisor, owning and single-handily operating a construction company, which generated over $1 million in annual gross revenues. She completed 15 large complex commercial tenant improvement projects in a 3-year period, managing budgets from $60K-$750K, all while running and funding her own tech startup.She has consulted for several companies growing them from single to multiple locations while developing their HR, marketing and operational departments. She expanded and scaled a medical device company from 1 to 8 locations in 2 years, while simultaneously developing a new marketing department, changing the core business model of the company to attract new markets of clientele. Resulting in $450k+ of additional revenues in its second year and on track for an additional $800k+ in its third year.Additionally, Reader chairs a youth foundation in her native Vancouver, which works to give academic scholarships to outstanding students, as well as funding other charitable youth causes.
