Nicole Reske graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2018. During her studies there, she was privileged to work on an ancient historical site in Methone, Greece, as an archaeological field school. Reske interned through AmeriCorps at Pipestone National Monument right after graduation, where she became more aware of the fight for Indigenous rights. Following this experience, she spent several months as an archaeological field technician, learning hands-on Cultural Resource Management techniques and protocol. This background in archaeology allows Reske to uniquely interpret the view of those who were previously silenced and provides a foundation for reviewing and protecting cultural resources.Reske was the Forest County Potawatomi tribal community’s assistant THPO since 2019. Since then, she has had professional training in NAGPRA, ARPA, Sect. 106, and Native American Property Law from the National Preservation Institute. With this increased awareness, Nicole realized there was a lot of work to be done for the Indigenous communities and their sovereign rights and applied to the University of Oklahoma, College of Law, Master of Legal Studies, Indigenous Peoples Law program. Nicole Reske served the Seminole Tribe of Florida 2022-2023 as the Project Manager for the Heritage and Environmental Resources Office (HERO). She facilitated and coordinated troubleshooting between STOF departments with plans for ground-disturbing developments requiring permits from the Tribal Historic Presentation Office (THPO) and the Environmental Resource Management Department (ERMD), as well as assisted community members with their projects.
