Can you remember what it felt like to be a teenager struggling to figure out what you wanted to do with your life? A large percentage of young adults are overwhelmed by the fear, pressure and anxiety that comes in choosing their career paths. In disadvantaged communities youth are typically blind to the possibilities for their lives, and only rarely have the additional guidance needed to identify their unique gifts. These factors may compound to cause mental health issues such as depression, violent crime, and increased dropout rates. High need students are matched with beleaguered high school guidance counselors, who on average are responsible for 854 students each. In high poverty districts, or rural areas, this ratio climbs to a staggering 1,440 to 1. Scholar, J.R. Stone identified career guidance as an important element of keeping students in school.Living a life of purpose and passion has proven to increase productivity and the overall health of both individuals and society as a whole. GROW fills a critical gap in our social system – helping youth figure out who they are, how their intrinsic gifts align with careers, and tools for success. The result is empowered youth who are in a position to take ownership of their education, careers, and futures.- 100% of students said that after taking GROW’s class they have a greater understanding of themselves. - 97% of students responded positively that they have more clarity about their career path - 97% of students responded positively that they have a better understanding of how to accomplish their life goals.GROW has helped students:• Revert from a life of crime• Increase engagement in school & grade improvement• Discover purpose/value• Find ideal career fits• Gain:- self-motivation + confidence + drive- understand their unique traits & orientation- awareness of other points of view and increased compassion - tools for success with accomplishing goals- framework for future career & life shifts

  • Serene Star Productions
    Founder
Serene Star Productions Jan 2002 - Jan 2012
Serene Star Productions was established in 2001. The first four years were spent primarily producing some of the largest independently promoted concerts in San Francisco Bay Area. Some noteable concerts include: Kanye West, Maroon 5, Bobby Womack, and Michael Franti. In 2005 Serene Star expanded, after moving to Los Angeles, taking on an array of events. I procured clients and managed client expectations, including ensuring high-quality events while minimizing expenses. In L.A. I had the chance to work on large productions such as the Emmy's, but also enjoyed producing small events such as house parties. Serene Star Productions produced numerous types of events including fashion shows for Fashion Week, the opening of Macon National Raceway, corporate events for clients such as Golds Gym, Citi, and BET, and nonprofit events for clients such as Los Angeles Childrens Hospital and 100 Black Men of America. It was in LA that I learned how to navigate the complexities of multimillion-dollar event productions.Special Events Magazine and the International Special Events Society have acknowledged Serene Star Productions for being an innovative leader in the green movement. Additionally, I have spoken at and designed eco lounges for industry trade shows.Serene Star Productions grew organically and fruitfully. I soon realized my niche with sponsorship activation and experiential marketing. I have a strong passion for engaging people in unique ways that will stick with them for years to come. I am on a constant path of evolution, growth and staying knowledgable of the trends. I currently freelance, but am not investing energy into Serene Star Productions. Some recent freelance work has included Project Manager for John Muir Health Community Celebration for the new hospital wing opening, The VIP manager for LinkedIn Talent Connect, room manager for Citi EMT event and three years of helping with the production of J.P. Morgan's annual Healthcare Conference.
