I’d never planned to be a financial planner. In fact, I wasn’t really one for planning at all.I was more about living in the moment, chasing the joy of each day and never worrying about the future.In a perfect world, I’d live my best life like that forever. But real life, no matter how charmed it can be, has a way of throwing things at you, and I learned the hard way that I needed to be prepared for anything. I had to learn how to plan.I found myself pregnant at 26, at the height of my exciting, fast-paced career in hospitality and at the tail-end of my MBA studies. I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my life before that point, but I didn’t have much structure or a financial safety net, and I didn’t know enough about taking care of my finances to be able to quickly turn things around. I was pretty much a mess, but I wanted to do better for my daughter’s future.
