Throughout my life, I have held positions that, though different, all had to do with arming individuals with knowledge, tools, and power to better think and represent themselves. In college, I pursued a double major in Philosophy with an Emphasis in Law and Journalism with a Concentration in Print and Online to further hone my research, writing, and communication skills. I was a member and, later, Campus Representative for Bay Area JusticeCorps, a national service organization through the court system that provides self-represented litigants legal information through the organization's members. As a member, I worked one-on-one with customers and with attorneys at San Francisco's ACCESS Center to help individuals navigate their paperwork. As a Campus Representative, I was in charge of recruiting members, being a liaison for current members, logging in data, and occasionally serving self-represented litigants at San Francisco's ACCESS Center. As a bonus, these positions actually went hand-in-hand with one of my main future goals in life: to become a lawyer. I am now attending the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), to achieve my dream of becoming a lawyer and advocating for those in my community. My mother often asks me if the dark circles around my eyes from the amount of work I dedicate myself to are worth it. I would gladly continue my trend of carrying my eye bags as my badge of honor for the sake of fostering an informed community. In my opinion, it's a very worthwhile cause and a statement that is also an answer to my mother’s question.
