Capturing Wheelchair Users' Occupational Performance Issues with the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure - An exploratory descriptive qualitative study.

At DAM I worked in a tiered service delivery model with children and young adults with disabilities to foster an inclusive dance environment and enable participation in dance. I gained a strong knowledge of various neurodevelopmental disorders, and genetic and developmental disorders. I utilized the Pathways and Resources for Engagement and Participation (PREP) forms and CanChild F-Words to guide my clinical reasoning of intervention strategies. This placement required me to collaborate closely with the DAM team and community, support and educate volunteers and dance instructors, work 1:1 with dancers of various abilities, and use strong observation and communication skills. This placement consisted of a Leadership Emerging/Enhancing Advocacy Program Planning and Evaluation (LEAP) project component. I created interactive training handbooks to accompany DAM's online training course that will be administered to OT's and dance instructors.

For my second placement in the MSc OT program I split my time between the Reactivation Care Centre (Church Site) and Humber River Hospital (Wilson Site) in the orthopedic surgical program. The OT role at Reactivation Care Centre includes but was not limited to: functional assessment, ADL assessment, cognitive assessment and intervention, seating assessments, assisting an interprofessional team with discharge planning with a focus on rehabilitation. The OT role in the surgical program was mainly comprised of OT assessment, intervention and discharge planning.

JS Occupational Therapy is a supplier for OT services in Ontario for catastrophic and non-catastrophic MVA cases. I gained an understanding of how OT'S conduct assessments in homes, job sites and in office settings. I also gained experience with the different assessment tools and multidisciplinary documentation involved in this field of work. Assessment were focused on ADLs, IADLs, family, social, recreational, home safety, ergonomics, return to work, etc. I gained an understanding of the types of benefits offered under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) and how to use the SABS to advocate for services for diverse clients with a wide range of injuries impacting occupational performance.
