Proactive Communications Officer responsible for delivering a variety of communications activities to promote the initiative to a diverse international audience.

Provided regional support on digital campaigning in general, supporting social media growth etc. and Pan-Africa campaign acquisition.

Worked on a variety of freelance projects, including; writing, editing and website management. During this time, I also organised and conducted a webinar series on Digital Campaigning for Oxfam in South Africa, as well as content management for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), for the development of their new website, Next Einstein Intiative.

As a Digital Content and SEO Manager at Absa Bank; I managed the content distribution strategy on the various digital channels, i.e. the Absa website (www.absa.co.za), the App, Absa.mobi, ATMs and SMS campaigns. The content produced was powerful, with the intention of generating leads and brand exposure, ultimately increasing online sales. I was responsible for content production, website management, usability testing, sitemap generation and information architecture, editing and quality control activities while working in conjunction with multiple departments and third parties. I assisted in the project management of both the Avios Card and British Airways Credit Card websites – both sites exceeding their sales targets from the go-live date - as applications for these credit cards are done solely through the websites. Having worked with big industry names such as British Airways and Avios – gave me great confidence in the work that I have done and in delivering timeously, efficiently and meticulously, as the environment was deadline-driven and highly pressured – these are qualities I pride myself in.

At SANGONeT, my responsibilities included the writing of articles, as well as the editing of content on the NGO Pulse portal. I also assisted in the redevelopment of the SANGONeT websites using the Content Management System, Drupal. The following websites were redeveloped on the CMS platform; NGO Pulse, Prodder and SANGOTeCH. This role had a more technical aspect to it, which involved understanding each websites' information architecture, site maps, taxonomy, various modules, as well as the layout and design. I was thus required to liaise with the web developer on a daily basis to ensure the optimal running of all websites.I later became Project Manager of NGO Pulse Solutions – which saw me take on a more business development role. I was responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of all ICT and Social Media related training activities. This included bringing in new business by liaising with various NGO and CSO stakeholders, creating linkages and promoting the services of SANGONeT among these NGOs and stakeholders.

At Business Partners, I was responsible for the planning and creation of content for the SME toolkit (website). This role entailed researching and sourcing content for the website, as well as writing and editing content for the website. I also uploaded the content to the website using a content management system, which entailed some basic HTML coding.

At Women’sNet, I was the Project Officer working on various programme activities relating to women and young girls. My responsibilities included various project management activities, which included logistics and administration, the development of training modules and workshop facilitation. Workshops included Digital storytelling, Writing and Communications skills and the Use of Social Media for Development. Managed social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter and conducted after-action reviews and report writing.One such project was Girls'Net, a programme teaching girls and young women to harness information and communication technology (ICTs) for their development. I was responsible for the development of the new Girls’Net website (www.girlsnet.org.za), a newsletter and training activities – where girls were taught how to use the website and a mobisite to share their stories and experiences through writing and digital storytelling. The training activities also included writing and communication skills (for both online and print), the use of Social Media for development and the creation of Digital Stories. I especially loved working on this project, as I was able to share my knowledge of the online world with girls, as well as teach them the importance of online safety.
