I am Nicolò Russo, a second-year Master's Degree student at the Physics department of the University of Trento, Italy. Prior to this, I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Physics at the University of Turin, Italy, graduating with honors. My laboratory thesis, titled "Development of a protocol for the realization of microelectrodes by laser photolithography", provided me with invaluable experience in laboratory techniques pertinent to Material Science, including the utilization of equipment such as Plasma Cleaner, Scanning Electron Microscope, Pulsed Laser, Ion Coater and Spin Coater. My academic pursuits and scientific interests predominantly lie in Experimental Physics, as evidenced by the coursework I have undertaken during my Master's Degree program. These courses have equipped me with practical expertise in techniques commonly employed within Condensed Matter/Material Science Laboratories, including Raman, UV-Vis, IR and Brillouin Spectroscopy as well as XPS, SIMS, X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence, Photon Correlation, SEM and AFM. However, my broad passion for Science ranges from Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics to Chemistry. I have also had the privilege of being selected by the Italian Society of Neutronic Science (SISN) to participate in their educational program in 2023, which was financed by ILL and ESS. The educational program culminates in a group analysis of a virtual experiment conducted at ILL. Our group focused on an experiment of Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS), and our work was recognized as particularly meritorious. Presently, I am engaged in the culmination of my academic journey through my Master's thesis project, undertaken in collaboration with the group of the Physics department of UniTn IdEA (Hydrogen-Energy and Environment). The focal point of my thesis lies in the development of a water splitting photoelectrochemical cell. I participated with a team of young scientists and researchers in the Industrial Problem Solving with Physics event at the University of Trento for BM Group Polytech, tackling a problem related to creep in stainless steel. Our solution was considered the best and most innovative by a scientific committee.The reason of my interest: In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, Material Science emerges as a pivotal force in driving positive change and has a fundamental role in finding sustainable solutions.
