As a member of CIC’s executive leadership team, my role as Chief Strategy Officer is to ensure CIC’s programs achieve maximal efficacy using technology and data-informed decision-making approaches.Notable Projects/Accomplishments/Responsibilities:Designed, built, and managed a tech-forward eviction prevention program during the pandemic for Pima County / Tucson, AZ, quickly scaling up to distributing $1 million / week. Over 18 months, we delivered $65 million in assistance, preventing 30,000+ individuals from experiencing homelessness. Other notable aspects of the project:- Assembled and led a team of 35+ employees to complete the project. Set high level goals for team, met or exceeded deadlines, and engendered a spirit of shared leadership.- Met biweekly with government partners to conceptualize and design all aspects of the program.- Led biweekly meetings with 12 partner nonprofits to provide training, get feedback, and review performance metrics. - Working with a team of software engineers, acted as lead Product Manager, designing and building a custom case management software system that allowed community members to easily request rental assistance. - Wrote custom scripts, built dashboards, and designed advanced workbooks in Excel to improve team performance, share information with local government, and meet federal reporting requirements.- Prepared and delivered information to media partners to promote awareness of the program.Managed and oversaw the build and release of three additional custom software solutions for CIC's Bond Compliance, Home Ownership, and Small Business Lending teams. - Set the high-level vision for each project and made decisions on feature sets. - Facilitated weekly meetings and managed our internal team by assigning tasks and tracking outcomes.- Led weekly external meetings with software development teams.- Facilitated and participated in rigorous testing processes in Staging and Production environments.

As a member of the Lending Team, I directed mission-driven programming focused on providing loan capital to small businesses considered “unbankable” by the traditional banking system. Responsibilities and notable projects:- Worked with clients, especially minority and Spanish-speaking, to submit applications for loan capital.- Developed and implemented criteria for evaluating and rewarding businesses/clients working towards positive social change.- Partnered with local organizations to bring impact (loans, financial education) to their client base.- Built an online application for the Emergency COVID Loan project, allowing a tenfold increase in loan applications.- Underwrote and approved loans, managing all relevant financial and legal paperwork. - Wrote content; designed and delivered (bilingual, English/Spanish) lessons on business finance (see video examples from CIC’s Business Finance page for more).- Facilitated weekly stakeholder meetings with local BIPOC advisory committee during the launch of a 0%-interest microloan program by and for the BIPOC community.

As the department head, I managed eight direct reports and oversaw six programs, four food pantry branches, two farmers’ markets, and one community farm. Our work included everything from food distribution and meal prep to job training, food policy advocacy, and gardening education. Notable achievements:- Led the conversion of four CFB branches from food pantries into full-service, client-centered resource centers. - Created and launched CFB’s health initiatives, which included the implementation of an org-wide nutrition policy, expansion of nutrition education efforts, and partnerships with health care and research-oriented organizations. - Represented programs and participated on web team that successfully rebuilt and launched a new website.- Engaged in public speaking at conferences, donor events, etc.

I directed an innovative department that was focused on looking beyond stopgap hunger relief strategies and building holistic solutions to hunger, such as those focused on food security, advocacy, and justice. I managed and coached six direct reports overseeing five programs that involved everything from running farmers' markets and farms to culinary training. Notable responsibilities and achievements:- Worked with staff to analyze impact, developing metrics for programming that doesn't fit the traditional evaluation schema of food banks, which typically focuses on pounds of food delivered per person.- Worked closely with the Development Team to pursue fundraising opportunities (grants, foundation support, etc.) and organize donor events, such as CFB's first "Farm-to-Table" dinner.- Played a key role in organizing and hosting the "Closing the Hunger Gap" conference, with over 200 food banks and food security and/or justice related organizations from across the nation in attendance.- Worked with local partners in a participatory action research that culminated in a report on “La Doce: Barrio Foodways.” The project continues to bear fruit in revitalizing the culturally-rich but historically-neglected corridor of South 12th Ave in Tucson, AZ after a donation by MacKenzie Scott. - Competed in and secured funding via a “fast pitch” style event, resulting in funds to hire a Registered Dietician.

- Built and designed a farm-to-school program from the ground up. - Managed program staff, national fellows, and university interns to complete projects focused on farm-to-cafeteria and school gardening. - Managed all administrative and budget-related tasks for the program.- Acted as a strong policy advocate, resulting in, most notably, the reversal of local policies banning school garden food in the cafeteria. This policy reversal paved the way for the first “Garden-to-Cafeteria” event in Tucson Unified School District.- In conjunction with University of Arizona, facilitated and published research on the impact of school garden exposure on elementary school students.- Secured over $350,000 in funding for the program, including the largest single gift to CFB at the time.- Produced narrative reports, outcome summaries, and budget-to-actuals to meet reporting requirements for local and federal grants.
