About Nicolas Stankovic

Acting everyday to reduce environmental impacts and create a value from innovation is leading me with a great engagement.Specialized in materials recycling with a strong background in chemistry, I apply knowledge and competences in a context of circular economy transition. Graduated in 2019, my master program funded by the EIT Raw Materials is focused on « Advanced Materials: Innovative Recycling ».I had the chance to develop strong skills in project management thanks to a master thesis conducted within a company and with the scientific expertise of a University. While being completely autonomous, I developed a complete recycling process for NiMH batteries.My first professional experience helped me to develop the same project at pilot scale and perform eco-design approaches after carrying out complete life cycle analyses. These approaches helped a lot to reduce environmental impacts but also to have economic saves.I am now writing a thesis to obtain a PhD. This thesis is focused on the development of a hydro, pyro or combined hydro-pyro recycling processes for permanent magnets. The recovery of neodymium is nowadays a big challenge to face and the solutions investigated in this thesis are discussed and compared technically, economically and environmentally. Thus, the best route to recover neodymium can be further industrialized to create a strong permanent magnet recycling chain in EU.
