I have a background in cardiovascular pharmacology; and now work in metal, nanoparticle, and mixture effect toxicology. Currently, I am very much into using QSAR computer modelling in toxicological risk assessment.I teach medical doctors in toxicology; I teach toxicology in two university courses; I serve as reviewer for several journals, including, Toxicology, Nanotoxicology, Particle and Fibre Toxicology and Drug and Chemical Toxicology. I have co-authored 74 peer-reviewed scientific articles in pharmacology and toxicology (Orcid 0000-0002-1188-445X).Current projects:Cabin air quality assessment of long-term effects of contaminants:https://www.item.fraunhofer.de/en/r-d-expertise/toxicology/cabin-air-quality.htmlCollection of toxicological knowledge for setting occupational exposure limits in Denmark. The reports we wrote can be found at: https://nfa.dk/da/forskning/strategiske-forskningsomraader/kemisk-arbejdsmiljo/graensevaerdierHazard and risk assessment of lubricant oils and refrigerant oils (Sikker-Olie). The project is a continuation of our previous project Sikker-Motor. Results of the latter project can be found at https://dosedescriptor.comFFIKA project on chemical mixtures funded by the Danish GovernmentI have collected the tools I usually use for toxicological hazard assessment: maybe they are useful for you: go to: www.dosedescriptor.comI am currently working on putting my research to practice (R2P) and the knowledge on the toxicology of spray cans can be found at https://dosedescriptor.com/R2PEnglish

Adjunct Associate Professor In Toxicology, Research Group For Risk BenefitDtu National Food Institute Feb 2022 - PresentI am adjunct associate professor at the Research Group for Risk-Benefit led by Morten Poulsen. We are collaborating on toxicology questions that relate both to the occupational situation and food science - providing 'toxic' synergy between our groups and institutes. -
Senior Researcher In ToxicologyDet Nationale Forskningscenter For Arbejdsmiljø (Nfa/Nrcwe) Sep 2018 - PresentI am employed at the National Research Centre for the Working Environment where I collaborate with all my great colleagues (www.nfa.dk). Currently, I work in the EASA EU project Cabin Air Qaulity III, doing toxicological assessment of aeroplane cabin air in collaboration with partners from Europe and the USA.I am project leader in Sikker-Olie, in which we investigate the safety of lubricant and refrigeration oils.We have just started a new research project, FFIKA II, granted by the Danish Government. We look at the risk of synergy with exposure to chemical mixtures - something that impedes the use of current mathematical models for combined assessment of chemical cocktails -

ScientistNational Food Institute, Technical University Of Denmark May 2011 - Apr 2015I was work package leader in a project aimed at investigating mathematical models for the calculation of cummulative effects of chemical mixures. I co-supervised two Ph.d.-students. I taught engineering students in the toxicology of nanoparticles and the nervous system. The results of the research were presented at conferences in Stockholm and Interlaken, and 8 peer reviewed scientific articles in such journals as PLOS ONE and Archives of Toxicology. -
ToxicologistNational Food Institute, Technical University Of Denmark Aug 2010 - Jan 2011I was working with the mixture effects of pesticides in a European Food Safety Agency project. The project was published as a report and a database. -
Post.DocNational Food Institute, Technical University Of Denmark Aug 2008 - Jul 2010DenmarkIn the lab of Henrik Rye Lam and Henrik Frandsen, I was work package leader on the NanoTest project on silver, gold and selenium nanoparticle toxicology. I supervised 1 Master thesis student and 2 technicians. I taught in the toxicology of nanoparticles The results were published in 8 peer reviewed scientific articles in such journals as Particle and Fibre, Neurotoxicology , Archives of Toxicology and Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology. And several other articles later came out of the knowledge we built over those years, including three review papers on selenium that almost covered the whole area of oral toxicity and biokinetics of selenium; as well as review papers on the dermal, pulmonary, and implantation toxicity of silver. -
Post.Doc In Nephrology And ImmunologyDept. Nephrology, Leiden University Medical Center Jan 2007 - Feb 2008NetherlandsI did research in immunology and nephrology. I learned to isolate macrophages and dendritic cells from buffy coats. The techniques were cell culture, ELISA, FACS, qPCR and PCR based epigenetic measurements. -
Post.Doc In Renal PhysiologyRadboudumc Nov 2005 - Oct 2006Nijmegen, NetherlandsIn Nijmegen I continued investigations from my PhD project in nociceptin and its pharmaceutical analogue, ZP120, to unravel their mechanism of action at the cellular level. In addition, I worked on the unraveling of the mechanism of action of the pharmaceutical demeclocycline. The techniques were cell culture, cloning, transfection, Western blotting, PCR and confocal microscopy. The work resulted in an article in American Journal of Physiology. -
Ph.D. StudentDept. Pharmacology, University Of Copenhagen Oct 2002 - Sep 2005We worked on a novel peptide drug aimed at producing an aquaretic effect in congestive heart failure. The results were presented at conferences in Odense, Tübingen, Philadelphia, Washington and San Diego. The results were published in 5 peer reviewed articles in such journals as American Journal of Physiology and Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.During my PhD period, I taught in bone metabolic diseases and in diuretics. I also co-supervised one Master thesis student and one technician student. -
Research AssistantDept. Pharmacology, University Of Copenhagen Aug 2001 - Sep 2002 -
Master Thesis StudentLeo Pharmaceuticals 2000 - 2001Master thesis project in the effects of Vitamin D on Protein Kinase C. Steroid hormones are generally known for their long term effects on cells. However, I worked with the novel short term effects discovered to also occur for this class of hormones. The techniques were: Protein kinase assay using radio-isotopes, Western blotting and cell culture.
