Family members in the African Diaspora send approximately $43B in health remittances back to the continent every year (The World Bank 2020) and 75% of these remittances are used to put food on the table and cover medical expenses (IFAD). Yet family members remain unsure about the health state of their loved ones.Definable as "The Uber for home care in Sub-Saharan Africa” the Klarah solution tackles this problem by guaranteeing peace-of-mind to Africans in the Diaspora, outside the continent, by allowing them to opt-in for a quality home nursing care subscription for their loved ones back at home.Klarah is able to match patient needs and location to a pool of +500 trained nurses. Patient and nurses are matched based on required care experience and their proximity to each other. The HealthTech Hub Africa is a health tech accelerator based in Kigali, Rwanda. The hub powered by the Novartis Foundation, is inaugurated end of 2021 and located at the Norrsken East Africa House. It hosts 30 startups from around Africa that address either cardiovascular health, breast cancer, or virtual health and care challenges in an African context.For one full year, all the startups have unlimited access to the state-of-the-art space and are part of the HealthTech Hub Innovation Program, including: capability-building opportunities, partner match-making with the public and private sectors, and mentorship.
