Hi My name is Nigel. I am currently studying my Bachelors of Social Work, I will be finished my Degree in December 2023. I am currently on placement at Department of Community & Justice (DCJ) Housing in a Sustaining Tenancy Team in the Strawberry Hills office.I have spent the the past 6 years working in Mental Health with Uniting/Parramatta Mission. I work in a Hasi Plus program where we support consumers to re establish themselves back into the community after long hospital stays. In this role we work with the consumers on care planing, goal setting and every day psychooscial skills including shopping, travel traning, cooking and cleaning in their units. I have also put some time into running small groups with in this roles including health groups and smoking cessation groups,I have found this role to be rewarding and by this support worker role if has influenced me to go on further and study my Soclai Work degree.I have held some leadership roles with my time at Uniting including secondments as Team leader. My heart does stick with working with consumers but i was glad i gave these leaderships roles a go. Im looking forward to my degree finishing and im ecited for the future. I like case managment and i like the group work i have done in the past. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and bringing my skills to new roles in the future.
