I founded Nigel Blagg Associates in 1990 as an independent psychology practice providing assessment and research services to individuals and organisations. The company was incorporated as NBA Solutions Ltd in 2003 and has evolved as three separate businesses:• Nigel Blagg Associates, Child & Adult Psychology Expert Witnesses• NBA Thinking & Learning Resources, Publishers • NBA Solutions Business Psychology I am the lead consultant for Nigel Blagg Associates(www.nigelblaggassociates.co.uk) with a network of more than 30 Chartered Educational, Clinical, Forensic and Counselling Psychologists working across the UK providing Psychological Assessments in Family and Criminal Proceedings as well as medico-legal reports in Personal Injury cases. Our team also includes Specialist Therapists who provide a treatment service for adults and children suffering with wide range of psychological problems including anxiety, depression and PTSD. In addition to providing training and supervision to the associate team I continue to take on clinical work specialising in risk and parenting assessments and psychological assessments of children and their attachment relationships. I was responsible for the assessment, management and treatment of children and adolescents with a wide range of special educational needs and routinely prepared reports for the court on young offenders placed on remand. During this time I also conducted seminal research into the aetiology and treatment of school phobia and the enhancement of thinking and learning skills in adolescents leading to the publication of numerous research articles, a widely used modular thinking skills programme (Somerset Thinking Skills Course), and two books “School Phobia and its Treatment” and “Can We Teach Intelligence? An Evaluation of Feurstein’s Instrumental Enrichment Programme”. For a number of years during the 1980s I was an Associate Editor with Behaviour Change - Journal of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy. In the early 1990s I was commissioned by the then Employment Department to undertake a series of national studies on enhancing transferable skills and the employability of adults including those with special educational needs and this resulted in the publication of further research studies, good practice guides and a modular thinking skills programme known as “Thinking Skills at Work”.
