As an ISEB/ISTQB qualified test engineer, who performs testing to IEEE 829. My role was to verify network elements and management systems in a simulated network environment. This role was crucial in ensuring that faults were identified and fixed within the test lab, prior to customer roll-out; thus mainaining the reputation of the company, as a producer of quality telecoms transmission systems and management products.This involved validating all functionality of Marconi and Ericsson developed products and identifying hardware, firmware, software and management faults. More specifically:Maintaining the Ericsson NE (Network Element) management system (MV36), to allow the system to be tested and proved prior to customer roll-out, by myself and others. For which I have attained a good working knowledge of its HP-UX based operating system.PDH traffic testing i.e. SNC Protection, Equipment Protection, Performance etc…SDH traffic testing i.e. MSP, MSpring, Section trace etc…Ethernet testing i.e. Policing, RSTP/MSTP for EPL, EVPL & EVPLAN service types.Network management testing i.e. NE Upgrades, NE Backup and Restore etc…For the following NE types:OMS1600, OMS1200, OMS840, SMA S3, SMA S4, MSH11cp, MSH11c, MSH41c, MSH51c, MSH64, Synfonet STM 1/4/16, SAN C2, Bosch MS1/4, OMS860, OMS870 and OMS1410 testing.Using the proprietary LCT (Local craft terminal) or network management system (MV36).

Working within a customer facing engineering department. I provided support for in-house designed and built engines installed in the field. More specifically, providing electrical retrofit solutions for additional and replacement gas turbine systems. This involved the production of parts lists and associated electrical wiring diagrams and schematics for these retrofit systems.The most comprehensive project which I worked on was a complete electrical systems retrofit for a refurbished turbine package. I was responsible for coordinating and trouble shooting all aspects of the electrical side of the project.

Basic appreciation of mechanical and electrical engineering. Plus British Standard and company specific procedures. This was followed by studying office and shop floor practices followed by a years placement in the turbine systems test department.
