My fascination and passion for construction started as a very small child with the introduction to Lego and Meccano. I loved to build – it was just my thing.When my father introduced me to key pioneers like Brunel and Telford this just fuelled my interest. The models got bigger and more sophisticated, and, in my head, I was going to be the next Brunel.Of course that didn’t happen, but this did set me on my path, and this is where it all began.At the age of 15 I started in construction as a labourer on a YTS scheme and then spent 20 years on the tools - operating machines, doing groundworks, working in utility, plant transport – you name it, a whole range of things that have shaped my world today.After hitting a bit of a crossroads in the early 2000’s I went down the supervisory route managing a large team in the world of civil engineering – this was where I quickly identified an opportunity in our industry.I finished on the tools in 2005 after becoming a CPCS & SMSTS instructor working freelance with CITB @ Bircham Newton and at the Olympic Park.In 2014 Construction Training Services was established.For me it’s all about giving back. Teaching and helping people to develop their careers and grow crucial skills.It gives me so much joy and reward to see people progress especially when they might not have believed in themselves.Having worked in the industry for over 35 years, I love how diverse, dynamic, and exciting construction can be.If we can help people build skills for now and for the future, then that’s hugely rewarding for me personally and for the business.Please do get in contact if you have any questions.
