Responsibilities include the procurement of suitable firearms and ammunition for use in wildlife control at Australia's busiest commercial airport, conducting staff training and assessments in the safe use of firearms in the airport environement, liaising with State and federal Police to ensure legal compliance in the use and storage of firearms and ammunition as well as licencing requirements.I have been instrumental in facilitating a generational change in bird dispersal at Sydney Airport, transitioning from traditional 12 gauge shotgun based pyrotechnics to a safer, cleaner pistol-like pyrotechnic launcher. This change, whilst providing airfield operations staff with a safer bird dispersal tool, will also provide significant annual cost savings to the firearms budget. The transition was completed in October 2017.

Specialising in airfield wildlife management and airfield works facilitation.Current duties include runway and taxiway serviceability inspections, apron management, airside driving monitoring and enforcement, obstacle monitoring and reporting, the issuing of Notams (basic and complex), emergency response coordination, wildlife management and monitoring including wildlife strike reporting. Airside works facilitation includes the issuing of Notams as per Method of Working Plans (MOWP) and Approved Works Plans (AWP), the mentoring and supervision of contracted works safety officers, ensuring compliance with local Standard Operating Procedures, the Aerodrome Operating Manual and CASA Manual of Standards Part 139.Currently the Firearms Coordinator for the Airfield Operations section of Sydney Airport, a role which involves firearms currency training and assessments, the purchasing of firearms and ammunition suitable for the control of birds and animals in an airside environment, as well as exploring alternative means for the pro-active harassment of wildlife.
