I've extensive experience in conducting suspect interviews. I worked in both pro-active and reactive investigative roles throughout my service. I spent the final eight years of my service working within the Specialist Crime Operations Unit. I regularly received praise for my skills as an interviewer from both supervisors and colleagues. Working within the SCOU meant I found myself involved in complex investigations that included extensive telecoms, forensic and surveillance evidence that were conducted and obtained over many months. Once the interview stage of these investigations was reached all the evidence would need to be incorporated into interview plans and strategies. These interviews would inevitably be conducted over numerous discs and could be conducted over several days. These interviews, due to the volume of evidence, needed meticulous and organised planning which I would always complete. Having worked in both reactive and proactive C.I.D. I have experience in both styles of investigating. My time in proactive C.I.D. meant that I've experience in dealing with covert and sensitive tactics and whilst having to incorporate the evidence into any interviews this needed to be done in a way that would protect the tactic or source. I've had to do this in many interviews and I am competent and confident in doing so. On several occasions I've been made aware of intelligence from covert human intelligence sources and would have to be mindful to protect the source during the questioning of the suspects. I've been O.I.C. for several large conspiracy to supply drugs cases involving as many as sixteen suspects and am both confident and competent in this role. I have been involved in the running and management of undercover operations where I found myself working with minimal supervision alongside officers from a neighbouring force in gathering evidence using undercover officers. I was also responsible for preparing all images gathered covertly and in building interviewing briefing packages for officers, who until this stage were unaware of the operation. Both operations led to the arrest of numerous persons for class A drug supplying offences and both had a positive impact on the local area. During several operations I undertook the role of disclosure officer which in lengthy multi defendant investigations is a significant task. In one particular case I worked alongside junior counsel in preparing disclosure schedules over several months. This case was successfully prosecuted with the defendant being sentenced to 13 yrs.
