I am now retired from the oil business and so what follows is essentially a summary of a fantastic 38 years I've had in the industry. I have been a geophysical seismic interpreter with over thirty years extensive international experience in exploration and production geo-science. After working in seismic data processing from 1977-1981, my career to retirement as a seismic interpreter, was primarily with Amoco, Enterprise Oil, Shell and Tullow Oil. My work assignments ranged from prospect generation to appraisal and field development in the U.K. and in the international arena. My last employment from 2006 was as a Principal Geophysicist working with Tullow Oil where I worked for nine years. From 2011 to 2015 I worked on the company’s highly active East African interests in Uganda and Kenya. These areas are undergoing intensive appraisal / development activity with significant volumes of hydrocarbons being identified. My work was primarily seismic interpretation and structural model building in small busy multi-disciplinary teams. Prior to this at Tullow I worked on the major Jubilee field project, offshore Ghana, preceded by work on Dutch and UK acreage and new ventures in Egypt. Before working with Tullow Oil I worked as a consultant geophysicist in Aberdeen with Talisman Energy (UK) Limited and Sterling Resources on UK projects. Prior to this and until February 2005 I was employed as a Senior Seismologist with Shell Syria Petroleum Development, Damascus, a job I started in November 2002.This work involved the detailed generation of prospects and well planning targeted to maximise development of AFPC oil fields and working in a study team for dedicated field mapping. The work in Syria was technically challenging, fully multi-disciplinary and also required a high degree of mentoring of national staff. Before working for Shell I spent eleven and ten years with Amoco and Enterprise. Invaluable experience was gained from both companies with international postings in each one.But hey, life wasn't all about work. Retired now I still like travelling, walking and flying my plane.
