As the National Assessment Facilitator for International Languages I liaised with the New Zealand Association of Language Teachers to ensure leading teachers are shaping the design and direction of NZQA's Digital Assessment Transformation (DAT) programme.I facilitated professional discussions that focused on innovation in assessment design and providing opportunities for teachers to feedback on how they want to work with NZQA to flesh out what they think innovation could look like.My day to day responsibilities covered the development and production of NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship examinations for Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. I managed contractors; all those involved in the writing and marking of external assessment - paper based and digital.

I worked to influence schools by challenging traditional thinking and practice and supporting innovation and change.I framed and designed the World War I Centenary curriculum support project, liaising with the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, and established a working collaboration with the National Library's Services to Schools.I led a strategy to improve information services to the secondary sector, and more effectively integrate curriculum, qualifications and vocational pathways messages.I led the design, content development and production of curriculum and qualifications guides for all senior secondary subjects aligned to The New Zealand Curriculum, including Asian, European and Pacific languages.I built relationships across the sector and inside the ministry to create synergies, connect allied work streams and build productive partnerships.I managed the design and delivery of educational media contracts and online community of practice services.I liaised with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and industry training organisations to share information and facilitate curriculum and qualifications development.

Living in the coastal village of Warrington, North of Dunedin, I took on a range of contracts involving conceptual design and content creation for print and online media projects, including.• Writing parenting information materials for youth across the Pacific• Editing reports on the situation of children, women and youth in each of the 14 Pacific countries for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Office, Suva• Developing the conceptual design and writing the consultation framework for the Ministry of Education’s New Zealand Curriculum Project - Draft New Zealand Curriculum• Scripting online interactive digital scenarios (IDSs) for delivering applied e-learning in the workplace: Polytechnics and ITOs working together - First Line Management e-capability development project (funded by the Tertiary Education Commission)• Establishing a Year 12 media studies course in a Dunedin high school.

CWA New Media was an e-learning services and interactive media production company.I was responsible for the instructional design and content creation for digital media, including:• Developing content and quality assuring instructional design for digital learning objects for The Le@rning Federation. The Le@rning Federation developed digital curriculum content for Australian and New Zealand schools, which are now owned and curated by the the National Digital Learning Resources Network (NDLRN) • Writing and editing content for a wide range of corporate, education and government websites, including he Humanities Research Network, the New Zealand Biotechnology Learning Hub and Te Kete Ipurangi (the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s online learning centre).
