Nigel Harris AM is an established and recognised non-profit sector leader with a strong focus on philanthropy and fundraising leadership. A long-term leader in the fundraising sector, in Australia and internationally, Nigel is a highly regarded presenter, writer, educator and mentor, and has a specific focus on leadership, governance and organisational development.Nigel is Managing Director of Nigel Harris & Associates, an advisory and consulting practice specialising in philanthropy and fundraising leadership.In a career spanning 40 years, Nigel has held executive roles for over 30 years, most notably as Chief Executive Officer of Mater Foundation. Joining Mater Foundation in 1996, Nigel oversaw revenue growth from $2m to $73m, establishing the Foundation as one of Australia’s largest health based fundraising entities and a major funder of medical research and clinical initiatives. Nigel left Mater Foundation in July, 2020 after nearly 25 years service.Holding an MBA majoring in fundraising as well as qualifications in Public Relations and Marketing, Nigel is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). In 2012 he was recognised as the Arthur Venn Fundraising Professional of the Year. He has played a significant leadership role within Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) over the past 30 years, serving as Board Chair on two separate occasions and stewarding practice credentialing, professional development and self-regulation initiatives. He has also held several international voluntary appointments within the fundraising sector.Currently Chair of Act for Kids, a director of Leukaemia Foundation Australia and trustee of the Institute of Sustainable Philanthropy, Nigel has also served on the CFRE and Community Council for Australia Boards. He is also a member of the Braille House Management Committee and the Rogare Council. Nigel is a Fellow of Fundraising Institute Australia (FFIA) and the Institute of Managers and Leaders, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Albany Creek. He has been active in community and sporting organisations for over 40 years and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
