This is a non-executive board of the national governing body for tennis in Great Britain. The Board considers proposals and information from the executive team in areas such as strategy & finances and it decides most of the big-ticket issues that arise to any sporting national governing body.As the chair of the Development of Tennis Advisory Group {DTAG), I oversee joint project-based working between grass roots volunteers and the experts within the LTA. The group comes together quarterly but the 8 individual workstreams continue throughout the year.As an advisory forum, DTAG facilitates collaboration on strategic activities that support the LTA’s strategy and plans. Largely around tennis development - but not every part of the strategy. And activity centres on areas where Councillors (a representative from each county plus other member organisations) can genuinely help by using their detailed understanding of what happens in counties and tennis-related organisations DTAG therefore comprises: DTAG Chair, LTA Participation Director, 8 Workstream Leads plus the LTA President & Deputy President usually attend. This thriving club now boasts Kent Tennis Coach of the Year 2014, Volunteer of the Year 2015 and was Kent Club of the Year in 2016. I was Kent Tennis Volunteer of the Year in 2018. After several years developing our programme for families and youngsters Nigel revamped the 2018 calendar of adult events for the club. He successfully introduced different formats for our handicap tournament, new themed fun tournaments, e.g. St Patrick’s Day, French Open, Wimbledon. He changed the timing of the club tournament and by demonstrating that club tennis is about much more than just encouraging youngsters, has carried a change-resistant adult membership with him. Nigel secured a £300 grant for seniors tennis and used this to subside sessions which brought 24 novice players into the sport and the club. This in turn led to new novice and improvers sessions, getting people to play more often. By adding a new tots session as well as Sunday coaching in 2018 Nigel kept driving tennis, and the club, forward. The Membership Secretary estimates Nigel has brought about 1000 new players into tennis in 8 years. Nigel understands what matters to families. Tennis must fit their busy schedule – if it doesn’t parents stop bringing their children. Nigel led fundraising for £90,000 to build a court-side pavilion that allows parents to get everything done. Since completion, parents typically bring (say) 3 children directly from school with tennis kit, supper and homework. Parents now watch the different lessons and childmind in warmth and comfort. By 7pm it’s “job done” - each child having played tennis, had supper and completed their homework. Show less

As one of the initial advocates at Unicorn Primary School for converting to academy status I care deeply about the success of Compass schools and the children and families they serve. I bring considerable experience of managing a business to budget, risk management and the drafting of important policies and documents. Being inspired by these young children is more than sufficient reward.
