About Nigel Moor

Following my retirement from planning consultancy I have been able to concentrate on my county council work and research. I have now completed my Professional Doctorate at the University of the West of England Bristol. My thesis focused on planning and politics and the role of the elected councillor, particularly in preparing development plans and the important role of scrutiny .It is available on the UWE research archive .My graduation was in the wonderful surroundings of Bristol Cathedral on the 25th November 2014.

    Following election in 2013 I was appointed by the Leader of the Council to the cabinet with responsibility for the Fire Service, Planning and Infrastructure. I was Chairman of the Conservative Group at Shire Hall Gloucester but stood down from that role at the AGM to be a member of cabinet. In September 2018 the cabinet was expanded to ten councillors with a new role dedicated to public protection. This has enabled me to take on the role of cabinet member for Environment & Planning with responsibility for housing, sustainable transport and infrastructure planning, climate change adaption and sustainable energy and carbon reduction strategies. Based on my writings I published the book The Planner and The Market which examined the relationship between planning and the development market ( Longmans 1983) and The Look And Shape of England : How politics has influenced its appearance over the last century ( Book Guild 2010 ).
