Social phenomena have always been an interest to me since my early years. Being curious by nature, the study of human behavior and interactions with one's community has always intrigued me. Why do people act the way they do? What are some factors that shape a person? However, knowing these are just the first part of the puzzle. How do we then create stronger individuals and a community that enables them? These questions were what drove me to pursue a diploma in Community Development.As a powerlifter with more than 5 years of training under my belt, my passion and interests collide as we bring sports and community development together. Through experience, I have learned much about the human psyche when it comes under pressure, as well as how external stressors affect individuals both physically and mentally. I believe that relatability plays a large part in psychology, and my years of training allows me to empathize with fellow athletes going through similar predicaments. Community Development has thought me aspects such as ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development), Design Thinking, as well as concepts of sociology and psychology which can be used to reflect the state of sports in Singapore. Sports psychology does not only mean dealing with the athletic pool in Singapore. I am also passionate about how we can shape our country into one that promotes the importance of sports and exercise to the general population despite being one of the busiest countries in the world.
