Accreditations:- Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist (C.ErgHF)- Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (FIEHF)I have 26 years experience working in Human Factors (HF). I began my career at the Defence Evaluation Research Agency (DERA), working in an R&D role on Human Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on multi-modal and 3D graphical user interfaces, novel interaction techniques and the use of Virtual Reality (VR). Another key area of my work was the application of cognitive ergonomics with respect to human decision making. After my time at DERA I spent 2 years at the National Air Traffic Services (NATS), involved in the HF aspects of the safety case for the London Area Control Centre (LACC). I then took a 5 year career break to teach English overseas, in Tokyo and Bangkok. Then I returned to the UK to work for London Underground and Transport for London (TfL) as a HF engineer, working on station and service control room design, user interface design for IT projects and design of buses for accessibility. I joined Liv Systems in September 2018, and to date my role has included providing HF support to the provision of systems for the Crossrail Route Control Centre and visits to Hong Kong where I have been conducting audits of the MTR HF processes. I have a strong interest in emerging digital technologies, in particular, VR, AR and AI and am fascinated by the transformative potential which these technologies offer for how we interact with digital information. I also have a strong interest in neuroscience and wish to explore how insights gained from neuroscience can be used to inform the design and application of these emerging technologies. As such I am an active member of the Cognitive Navigation (CogNav) special interest group, (https://rin.org.uk/page/CogNav) of the Royal Institute of Navigation. CogNav aims to apply insights from neuroscience to architecture and the design of technology solutions to support human wayfinding in built environments.
