Giles foods ltd is part of the Warburton group of bakeries, and is located in Milton Keynes. Giles foods has 3 factories producing French and Italian artisan breads for major retailers, pub chains, restaurants and catering companies. There is a further site at Warminster producing Chelsea buns, croissants, Danish and other specialty baked goods.Site Engineering Manager responsible for all aspects of site engineering and H&S consisting of:-o All engineering projects and process upgrades.o Managing a team of 15 people: 12 engineers, 1 administrator, 1 controller and 1 H&S advisor.o Managing future and current projects.o Ensuring the engineering department functions effectively and responds in a timely manner.o Control of budgets ensuring spend is in control and effectively utilized.o Overseeing contractors and ensuring all work done correctly and complies with company standards.o Continuous improvements.o Raising and control of capex budgets.o Monitoring KPIs and targets.o Ensuring minimum engineering cover is achieved at all times.o Sourcing new equipment and implementing processes to improve productivity and reduce production costs whilst ensuring the factory and equipment complies with company’s code of practice.o Working with all departments to ensure that the company’s targets and KPis are achieved.o The smooth running of the department and all services are maintained for effective operations.

o Repair and maintenance of all the machinery and equipment. o Managing a team of twenty two engineers who work on a shift rota basis (double days and nights).o Scheduling engineers’ shift patterns on a weekly basis to ensure adequate cover is available. o Prioritising and issuing tasks and duties to the Engineering teams.o Controlling stocks of various machinery spares.o Overseeing and inducting sub-contractors working on site, ensuring they work in a safe manner and comply with the Company code of practice.o Repair and general up-keep of the building, surrounding area and facilities.o Setting up and implementing maintenance schedules.o Controlling engineering expenditure of £2,000,000.o Completing actions for hygiene and GMP audits.o Monitoring maintenance targets and achievements.o Controlling and distributing planned tasks for engineers.o Issuing Permits to Work as necessary to ensure full health & safety legislation is complied with at all times.o Working with all departments to ensure that customer code of practice is adhered to at all times.

o All engineering projects and process upgrades within Factory 3 which deals with prepared produce and desserts for a major high street chain. o Sourcing new equipment and implementing processes to improve productivity and reduce production costs whilst ensuring the factory and equipment complies with Company’s code of practice. o Repair and maintenance of all the machinery and equipment. o Prioritising and issuing tasks and duties to the Engineering Section Manager.o Controlling stocks of various machinery spares.o Overseeing and inducting sub-contractors working on site, ensuring they work in a safe manner and comply with the Company code of practice.o Setting up and implementing maintenance schedules.o Controlling engineering expenditure and project budgets, capital expenditure of between £300k and £750k, maintenance budget of £448k.o Completing actions for hygiene and GMP audits.o Monitoring maintenance targets and achievements.o Controlling and distributing planned tasks for engineers.o Facilitate an Engineering Top Loss Meeting as part of the company’s drive towards OEE.Key Achievements:• Reducing labour by £341,000 in the first 20 weeks compared with the same period in 2010. Units sold in the first 20 weeks of 2010 12.5 million against 7.3 million in 2011.• Increasing labour average from 32% 2010 to an average 44% 2011-05-25.• Reorganise the engineering department with a labour saving of £25,000.• Reduce service contract spend from £202,000 to £125,000 a saving of £77,000.• Implement a new PPM schedule based on key equipment and failure analysis.• Design and install a system to transfer the raw product from the washer to the peeling machine reducing labour by £36,000 cost of project £13,000.• Reduce labour by £72,000 on four production lines by removing a Label Operative from each line. Project cost £12,000.
