Leading a team of commercial and finance staff, I was responsible for all commercial activity associated with the existing plant, and contributing to other development opportunities on the site. This was a particularly challenging period as market conditions deteriorated for relatively low efficiency CCGT plant, necessitating substantial changes to commercial and operational strategy and ultimately implementing a closure plan when the plan become no longer economically viable. Key achievements• Identified potential opportunity to restart operations as an open cycle plant, managed successful Section 36C planning application to modify consent, capacity market participation, and power and gas transmission connection applications• Development, market testing, valuation and successful negotiation and execution of a 200MW virtual tolling agreement and associated master trade and netting agreements• Settlement of three separate machinery breakdown/business interruption claims with total value in excess of £50m• Devising and implementing a trading and risk management strategy following expiry of long term PPAs and gas supply agreement Show less

Energy Sales and Trading Limited was established as an FSA authorised entity to conduct all power and gas trading activity for the BNFL generation fleet; this period coincided with the transfer of nuclear assets to the NDA who became the customer for the services provided. My responsibilities included development of the risk management strategy and reporting framework, compliance, credit risk and collateral management, and regulatory affairs.

At that time, the BNFL Magnox fleet comprised a CHP plant and five operational nuclear stations with a combined capacity in excess of 2GW. My principal responsibilities within the trading team were for regulatory matters (including CUSC and BSC), commercial interface with NGC, and trading systems.
